Understanding your SEO score and severities
How the score out of 100 is calculated, and what critical, high, medium and low mean.
Severity levels
- Critical: blocks search visibility or harms the whole site, such as blocking Google in robots.txt or noindex on the homepage.
- High: clearly affects important pages, such as pages without titles or broken internal links.
- Medium: improvements with noticeable impact, such as duplicate descriptions or missing canonicals.
- Low: good improvements with smaller impact.
Calculating the score
Every check has a weight. Site-level checks pass or fail; page-level checks lose points in proportion to affected pages. A category score is the share of total weight earned, and the overall score is a weighted average of categories.
If a category has no data (such as performance when PageSpeed isn’t enabled), it shows “Unavailable” and is excluded rather than given an assumed number.
Why does the score change between audits?
It changes as you fix issues or new ones appear, and can shift slightly if the crawler reaches different pages within the page limit.
